Day one of the Canmore sprints is done. I had a decent race, but it was just an off day for me. I felt like I was missing a gear that would kick in when I really go for it and make a move or something, so I didn’t end up finishing very well. I was 23rd over all, 7th american. This was quite a bit worse than I have been doing this trip, so hopefully I will be back on my game tomorrow! It wasn’t a terrible race or anything, it was just a bit off.
APU did quite well for Americans today, although Americans didn’t do that well today. Both of the first Americans were APU skiers. However, all of the Sun Valley team didn’t race the heats after qualifying and neither did a couple other US ski team members. They opted to only race the preliminary round for points. It was still really cool to see Iverson (7th, 1st US) and Valaas (6th, 1st US) do so well today. Results are here.
As you can see in the photo at top, it is really beautiful here. Canmore is an excellent place to ski, and a gorgeous area. It’s really awesome to ski in such a truly world class venue, we feel like world cup athletes driving up to the the trails every day!
